Joining the nation’s biggest mental health conversation
Happening every year, Time to Talk Day is a chance for friends, families, communities, and workplaces to come together to talk, listen and change lives.
NHS Hampshire and the Isle of Wight used the opportunity to urge people to remove the stigma around mental health and take this opportunity to start a conversation and talk. It could be opening up to a friend, relative or colleague, or by contacting one of the services available to people across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Sonya Mclean explains in our short video below.
A new hospital for Hampshire - consultation on proposals in full swing
Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust's CEO, Alex Whitfield, and Interim Chief Medical Officer, Dr Nick Ward, were on BBC Radio Solent this January for a live phone in. They took questions from the public on the proposed plans for up to ￡900m to be invested in Hampshire's hospitals. You can listen to the programme in full on BBC Sounds using the link below.
You can also find out more about the proposals in an open letter, published last month, from Hampshire doctors . The letter outlines the key aims and driving factors for the investment, the benefits to local people and the ways that they can get involved and make their voices heard.

Help keep winter bugs at bay with Healthier Together
With the cold weather really setting in this January, partners in the NHS and across the system have been continuing work to promote how people can keep warm and well. Clare Joy, a school nurse working on the Isle of Wight, gives a few top tips for parents on how to keep winter bugs at bay and using the Healthier Together app for advice when little ones are poorly.?
We also hosted BBC South with the team at PHL at Lymington Urgent Treatment Centre. They spoke to patients about their experience and showcased the amazing work of staff there. The piece also carries the important message about when to use an Urgent Treatment Centre, rather than the Emergency Department, for urgent but non-life-threatening issues. Treatment straight from your local pharmacy
You can now go to a local pharmacy for advice and treatment for seven common conditions and your pharmacist may provide some prescription medicine.
Patients can do this without a GP appointment for conditions including earache, sore throat, sinusitis or even an uncomplicated UTI (urinary tract infection). Priya Littler, pharmacist at Laly’s in Portsmouth, explains how this will work and how they can help patients with a range of minor illnesses in our short video below.
