NFT's - our journey so far

We started working in the crypto and blockchain space around 18 months ago and got involved in the NFT scene roughly 6 months later.

Most of our experience so far has been on the Cardano blockchain and we chose that for good reason:

• the use of proof-of-stake makes Cardano more eco-friendly than many other chains
• there is a lot of academic rigour behind the development, meaning things can take a little longer but it’s a much stabler environment
• transactions fees are relatively low
• Cardano has a strong, growing and supportive community

So far we’ve created our brand Karbon to represent us in this space and assisted in a heap of NFT drops.

What we’ve come to understand through experience, is this isn’t just about schooling up on a new piece of kit – if that were the case it would be relatively easy, we learn new stuff all the time. This is a totally different beast and our foray into this new and contentious space has been anything but smooth.

With NFT’s in particular there are so many, highly volatile variables and everything is still in its infancy. That means there are barely any domain experts or resources to leverage and there are cowboys and charlatans at every turn destroying credibility.

All of that can lead to a lot of internal angst. It’s a high risk game, both financially and reputationally. There’s much on the line and absolutely no certainty. There have been more than a few dust-ups amongst the company owners trying to agree on approach and where to invest. Already we have had to pivot a couple of times because we were too slow getting to market or the cost of development exceeded the potential benefit.

Karbon is part of Custom D and we’re a team of very experienced, highly skilled developers that specialise in web technologies and we’ve been doing this work?together,?for a very long time.

We have an exisiting successful development business in Custom D, adopting the crazy crypto, NFT world, and investing our hard-earned cash is a gamble.

That said, we believe Web3 technologies are going to be big part of the future of our industry, so we’ve rolled up our sleeves and we’re getting stuck in.

Recently we’ve been working on projects such as ParaPains, Papertopia, OBA and Critter Sweet Creations who all have complex, custom artwork generation requirements. This is exciting and rewarding work and we love working with these innovative creators from all corners of the globe.

Karbon is soon to release a self-service platform for artwork generation. We have big plans and we can’t wait to showcase our work to the world.
