The 2022 NFL season is now upon us. The thirty-two pro football teams vying for a trip to the Super Bowl play in 30 full-time stadiums. (NY Giants and Jets share one as do the LA Rams and Chargers) Numerous NFL games are played in dangerous communities or what this expert calls: “The Red Zone.” When it comes to football, being in the red zone is not always a good thing, especially for the defense!?

Now let’s consider the foreseeable risk of serious crime at your favorite NFL football stadium. There is great variation. Stadiums in the dreaded “Red Zones” require more robust security than those in the much less dangerous Yellow and Green zones.

The Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, referred to by fans as “The Linc,” is the country’s most dangerous NFL stadium and is sited in the (Red Zone). Lawful business customers risk victimization and serious crime rates more than 2,100% higher than the fans of the New England Patriots at the safest field of play, Gillette Stadium. The Pats are sited in the much safer (Green Zone) in Foxborough, Massachusetts. (Note: This expert has assisted client attorneys in winning negligent security cases against these defendant parties at both stadiums.)

These great variances in foreseeable risk mean that from a management perspective, the reasonable level of security required to protect lawful business invitees attending the games is huge.?Businesses and landlords have a legal duty and owe their customers and fans a reasonable standard of care for their safety in the face of foreseeable risk. By using crime and risk information from one of several federal, state, and local sources utilized by Premises Security Experts, Inc., one can see some of the statistical risks associated with attending an NFL game.
