In all of the often-proud 84-year history of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors, there will have been few periods more ignominious than the past few days.
On Tuesday this week, we reported on a legal spat between two NFDC members – Erith and Brown and Mason – over the contract to demolish the Aberthaw Power Station in Wales.? That legal spat wound up in court, with Cardiff Council forced to admit that it committed “multiple breaches” of public procurement law when it awarded to contract to Erith.? Brown and Mason are now seeking damages.
Just 24 hours later, in a separate court, three former site managers at NFDC member company Keltbray were found guilty of accepting bribes of around £600,000 from a specialist labour supply agency.
The BBC is reporting on an incident at Cottam Power Station, where a worker has been seriously injured during demolition being carried out by Brown and Mason.?
Today, DemolitionNews exclusively revealed that the incumbent CEO of the NFDC – Duncan Rudall – has handed in his resignation.
And on Sunday, the demolition world will stop to pay tribute to the four men killed when the boiler house at Didcot A Power Station collapsed on 23 February 2016.? That tragic incident remains under investigation a staggering and disgraceful nine years ago.? The demolition work was being carried out by another NFDC member company, Coleman and Company.
And all of this has happened just a few weeks before the Federation is scheduled to name its new president.
