Nextplay – Navigating your career in uncertain times

We are in an era marked by rapid economic shifts, technological disruptions, and soaring living costs. People often find themselves at crossroads, feeling stuck, disengaged, and yearning for a deeper purpose.

This gives rise to phenomena such as “Great Resignation”, “Quiet Quitting” and “Lying Flat” – all used to describe actions people take to opt out ( partially or fully) from the “rat race””

During my 8 years with LinkedIn, I've seen - from LinkedIn's data as well as through my interaction with businesses and government - the rapid disruption happening in our workforce.

I've therefore decided to found Nextplay to support people in building a fulfilling and meaningful career.

?

So What Are We Addressing?

During the course of our work, we will at one time or another find ourselves feeling “ stuck in the rut”.? This can be due to doing the “same old” for too long, lack of development opportunities, an unsatisfactory work environment, lack of work-life balance………and many more.

When this happens, many people will “grin and bear it ”, some complain to their loved ones, others spiral into depression or substance abuse.

This need not be the case.? With a good understanding of our aspirations, talents and values as well as a better grasp of possibilities ahead, we can take effective actions to get ourselves out of the rut. Doing so will not only enable us to rise above the immediate challenge, but also build resilience towards an evergreen career path. Organizations with employees who continuously build their Nextplay will also perform better and achieve more effective transformation.

?

What is Nextplay ?

Nextplay is firstly a term used in LinkedIn to celebrate employees taking on a new role or get promoted. ?In LinkedIn, career counselling is part of the manager’s job and employee transformation is in the company DNA .?? So when an employee successfully takes on a new role, both the manager and employee are recognized.

?

Nextplay is also a framework that enables individuals to achieve continuous transformation. The framework also supports line managers in helping their employees plan their career.

Lastly,? Nextplay is the name of the company I’ve set up with the vision of supporting organizations and employees transform work into play.

?

What is the Nextplay Framework?

?

The framework takes you through a journey in developing self and environmental awareness, build skills and take action to set you up for a successful career.

The framework is based on the word NExTPLAY

N?? ew

Ex? perience

T?? ransformation

This helps build the right mindset and commitment for you to take on your Nextplay

?

P?? lan

L?? earn

A?? ct

Y?? ay!......or Joy when you achieve your transformation

I will explain in my future articles how you can leverage each part of the NEXTPLAY framework to build the future you desire.

So stay tuned and best of luck to your Nextplay !

Congratulations Frank Koo 高國堂 with setting up NextPlay! What I like most is this line "The framework also supports line managers in helping their employees plan their career." I think line-managers and middle-managers are probably the most neglected part of the entire corporate value chain. They are key to translating upper-management's strategies into execution on the front line, and they also have to juggle so many competing priorities. Being caught in the "sandwich", they are often so overwhelmed that they do not view employee development and career planning with as much importance. This creates frustration, stagnation and unhappiness, and eventually becomes the "bosses that people leave." You seem to have given this much thought and I know you'll serve professionals with your rich body of work and wisdom stack.
