The Next Year; You Got the Funk!
I am a fan of the funk. I can’t dance, but the funk is one of my favorite genres of music. I guess I found it cool as a youth to listen to the down beats and back beats and the use of horns that made me/you sweat.
I mean it;
Sly and the Family Stone, Tower of Power, The O’Jays, Kool and the Gang, Earth, Wind, and Fire, The Isley Brothers, Ohio Players, Funkadelic, Parliament……
Oh! And then Parliament-Funkadelic got together and the funk was made insane. George Clinton and Bootsy Collins were my heroes, really, I mean it. I have been a singer for various bands and guitar player when the band could stand it over the years, I saw something so artistic in their stage presence. I still wish I could do that; step out there and leave it all on the stage, all of it. Heck if I could dance that might have helped, but alas; no, I can’t dance.
There were a lot more funk bands, but these were some of my favorites. Click here and keep reading
What we saw was one of the greatest funk collaborations of all time, sort of like what’s happening now in many aspects of networking today.
What Box?!
This is a time of great change and the trees are being shaken vigorously for those old technologies that will carry us into the future. Yeah, everything has been done, we’re just recycling, really, it has all been done before, now we just have to mix the right stuff together to make things new. Are you ready?
Things are getting Funky up in here. Is your career ready?
Who cares what label is on your iron? Really. Who cares where the box was built? Who really even knows where the box is! Don’t point up, there’s a piece of real estate somewhere you can take a cab and point at it. The cloud? White Box? There’s still a big investment going on in boxes. Labels; not so much.
In a day and age of giants, we need to guess where to clear a space for them to fall. Gangs of techies have propped up these giants and now we find some looking for a safe place to keep from being crushed when the arrows and stones bring them down.
What to do?
CODE
Make a name for yourself in this barren plateau. INVENT, I was recently in Montreal with a friend I will call Black Widow, a Data Center CCIE and her wish for her career so shiny and new; ‘I want to invent.” We will see a wave of newly minted networking professionals who are hungry to make a mark, to invent. BTW you will see more of Black Widow as she does product reviews for the CCIE Flyer in 2018.
There is a place where the new giants will rise, the next wave of stars in the networking industry won’t be white box AI strings of disciplined code. These stars will be your proteges and our children. These stars will not know as much about Virtual Machines from the mainframe world a concept reborn as NFV.
If Sasha Loves to Code, then why can’t you? Make a mark, leave a label and make the chatter about you. Not me, lord knows this is and has always been about you; CCIEs. Re-certs can now be had through continued learning and coding is an option you should all take advantage of. Find your own brand and leave it on a world hungry to examine your API!
Yup, if she can do it, so can you. No swipe at Sasha, heck most of my heroes in this industry are women. I have met many thousands of CCIEs in the 20+ years I have been on this mission, and yes, my heroes are the gals.
So, get the funk, come on and get the funk, you got the funk, get up and do the funk. Yeah, get the funk!
