“Next Stop?—?Zermatt”. Why This Announcement Puts a Smile on My Face
Since I was a kid, my source of strength has always been the mountains.?
I’m fuelled by a passion for what I do.
I don’t have a job, I am on a mission.
I’m driven by purpose for the greater good.
My family means everything to me.
Have you heard such statements before? I have seen them on social media way too often. Of course, all entrepreneurs are driven by passion, mission, and purpose. And yes, the family is an essential source of strength and support for any entrepreneur.
But with all the passion, mission, purpose, and family, sometimes I feel dead-tired and powerless after a series of beehive days at Yonder . Building a company is a marathon that takes years, so you need a secret source of strength?—?more specific than passion, mission, purpose, or family.
Since I was a kid, my source of strength has always been the mountains.
My mum noticed when I was 9 and we were returning to Switzerland from Poland by car. When we reached Austria and saw the mountains, apparently I cheered up. Ask my mum for further details.
As an adolescent, I spent most of my weekends in the mountains with my friends. In the critical age between 16 and 20, we did a lot of stupid things in the mountains, and it’s a small wonder all of us survived. After every scare, which we had to keep quiet from our parents of course, we returned to the mountains.?
Later on, I found a few mountain friends I learned to fully trust when on the rope. No stupid things anymore, since we all have families and want to return safely from every trip. No talking about what to do and not do, we move in silence and harmony.

During COVID-19, when going anywhere wasn’t possible, an awesome Matterhorn stock photo as my desktop background was my only link to the mountains. Noway near the same, but better than nothing, and the desktop background has stayed there ever since COVID-19.
After COVID-19, when the kids got bigger, they joined me in skiing, hiking, and climbing. Sharing my love for the mountains with my family is probably one of the best things in life.
Sometimes, I even go to the mountains just by myself. Not to hike, climb, or ski, but to work in quiet and in concentration. Locking myself away in my office or home office is not the same thing as locking myself away in my mountain office. Somehow, the mountain office gives me inspiration for my work.
Usually, I take the train to Zermatt in the evening after a hectic day in the office, to start the quiet work after a good night’s rest the next morning.
Whenever the train approaches Zermatt and I hear “Next Stop: Zermatt” through the loudspeaker, I have a smile on my face.
No matter how hectic the day was.
