Will V2G Go Mainstream?

Vacations don't hide the fact that we are experiencing a global weather crisis that is straining our electric grids. With V2G -- "vehicle to grid" enabled, electric vehicles could actually help stabilize the grid by addressing the imbalance between periods of peak demand and peak supply, enabling two-way power flow between the grid and the batteries in an electric vehicle. For V2G to be dependable, the vehicles need to be connected to the charger. Just as wireless charging will simplify connection of vehicles to the grid for charging purposes, it also simplifies connection to the grid for V2G -- nobody has to remember to plug in. Demand is growing for wireless charging

The more we evangelize wireless EV charging, the more we hear from EV owners who are anxious to share their enthusiasm. We've started to profile these fans -- we call them the "WiTricity Chargers," and they are the drivers who want to be first to buy a new EV with wireless charging built right in. Why? Demand is growing, and so is funding!

WiTricity announced the close of our latest round of funding, $63M, on Tuesday, August 9th. “WiTricity has built a true technology platform supported by a robust patent portfolio and global automotive standards,” said Alex Gruzen, CEO, WiTricity. “This new capital will allow us to accelerate product to market for both passenger and commercial wireless charging, and speed the development of our unique always-available wireless V2G capabilities allowing parked EVs to return power to the grid.” You can also check out the Forbes article that tells more of the WiTricity story.
