The next steps - Student to Apprentice

After chatting with the family at Christmas, our lovely teenage Year 11 grandson talked about his dreams for his career. It was amazing to listen to someone so young, articulate his hopes, wishes, dreams and moreover his WHY around his chosen path.
His own path is very clear; it’s not about going to College, then University etc. He wants to work outdoors and has a real passion for great outdoor spaces – so apprenticeship is the way for him.
How was he thinking about getting that first role I asked? Well, that means writing a CV, developing an attractive cover letter, and doing the groundwork (no pun intended) about who to send it to.
He looked a bit daunted – this is the bit he doesn’t enjoy much – so it inspired me to develop the following easy to follow guide for him and other students who find themselves faced with same needs.
It’s more important than ever to ensure you are noticed, and being authentic, being clear, demonstrating passion and asking for what you want, along with showing how you can add value is critical when presenting yourself ‘on paper’ – first impressions really do count.
So, here’s our Student to Apprentice guide - feel free to share with anyone you feel might benefit or who is in the same place - our gorgeous lad has written the most inspiring CV and Cover letter since!! And if you know anyone who might be looking for an apprentice in sports ground maintenance, drop me a line!
