Next step after GDPR ?
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a European directive aimed at protecting data and privacy for individuals in Europe; it is a major milestone giving citizens a better control of their personal data.
However, today, not only people are connected: with the deployment of IoT, devices are also connected and trillions of data will soon be captured, transmitted and stored. While individuals have their own identity, most of the connected devices have no identity, and as a result cannot be protected.
In many cases, digital assets are as sensitive as the personal data and security becomes a mission-critical issue.
A Secure Element can give a strong identity to each connected device: in the same way that it makes our banking card or our passport unique, it makes the connected devices unique, identifiable and secure.
With a unique device identity, it is possible to secure the data transportation, to ensure data integrity and to perform strong authentication of each device. Unique device identity is the root of trust for the IoT ecosystem.
So after GDPR, we need to accelerate the adoption of security rules and best practices in the IoT world….
