Once upon a time there were 2 networks Vodafone and Cellnet. BT owned Cellnet.
Then there were 4, with Mercury owned OnetoOne and Hutchinson owned Orange joining the fray.
Hutchinson sold Orange to Mannesman and launched Three.
Vodafone briefly owned Orange after buying Mannesman but then sold to France Telecom (FT).
OnetoOne is acquired by Deutsche Telekom and BT lets O2 (Cellnet) go.
O2 goes from strength to strength.
Orange and Deutsche Telekom owned T-Mobile merge and create EE which is eventually sold by co-owners Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom, to BT!
O2 and Three fail to come together … but Virgin and O2 succeed. Leaving Vodafone and Three to tie up the loose ends!
..and then there were 3
