The next once-in-a-lifetime opportunity

The next once-in-a-lifetime opportunity

We are entering the most exciting time in the history of Dell Technologies and in our industry. And if you've been at this a long time like I have – 36 years today to be exact – we've been gearing up for this moment since the beginning.

For this small-town kid, starting at Dell felt like hitting the jackpot, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. All my favorite things – geeking out as an engineer, gearhead and dreamer – clicked perfectly. I had caught a rocket by the tail. And for the past almost four decades, it’s been amazing to be at the center of digitizing the world and building enough compute and storage capacity to drive human progress. A real testament to our customers, our team members and our partners.

Now, 36 years later I feel like that young engineer all over again. Standing at the next once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Computers with enough intelligence and capability to unleash our full human potential on a global scale. With the power of Generative AI (GenAI), this is our opportunity to reimagine the world and our businesses. We can remove complexity, build new processes and make work and life easier.

As I embark on my 37th year, here’s what I know:

  • GenAI can free humanity to focus on value-added work, creative work, rewarding work.
  • Getting this right is the productivity gift of a lifetime.
  • Where we’re going is better than where we are.
  • I’ve never been more optimistic about the future.

Maybe what I’m most excited about is the opportunity the GenAI revolution gives us to push limits, test boundaries and challenge the norm for the next 20+ years. It’s early innings, but it’s real and game-changing. ?And I look forward to changing the game with the best team in the business.

Year 37... let’s go!

This is why I got into tech when I started programming the ol' Apple ][+ in 1979. There is always something new on the horizon. This time it's AI. In 2000 it was the Web (capital 'W'!). In 1980 it was the PC. Am I "cheating" when I use AI to automate mundane tasks? If so then I'm cheating when I put dishes in the dishwasher so I can read to my kid before she goes down for the night. Back to hand washing??
