Had a conversation with a buddy and it led to the next lap. He is happy with his current employment, finds the work meaningful and I can see that he enjoys the work. The conversation led to what’s next or what’s important.
He stated that while he is enjoying his work, he does not see himself wanting to move all the way up to C suites level.
When asked why? His reply was, "I've worked hard in the initial years of my career life (more than 15 years), the current work is good BUT I have more important things to focus on - My family."
" My kids are still very young, and I would like to be present in their formative years. Once those years have passed, I cannot get it back. What's the point of achieving success in one's career and missing out on the important and critical years my child's development?
When they hit teenage, I will have time to focus back on my career."
This was also one of the main reasons why I left SAF at the "tender age" of 43yrs old. Back then, my eldest was 14 and youngest was only 5. Starting my own business and working from home give me the opportunity to spend more time with them.
All of us that different things that are important to us. How often do we spend time focusing on the things that are most important to us or are we just running in circles in the rat race?
Some questions to ponder on:
Qn: What's important in my life?
Qn: What should I do or not do in order to focus on the important things in my life?
Qn: On a scale of 1 to 10, how important of these important things?
Qn: On a scale of 1 to 10, how committed am I in wanting to achieve it?
