The Next Great Mission
Why Veterans Should be at the Top of Your Hiring List
One of the most difficult times for military members is when they separate from service. They have proven that they have the skills to be extremely successful, and now they must prove it all over again in the civilian workforce. It is a challenge like no other they have faced, and often they must do it alone. So, why is there such a disconnect between their service and what many companies are looking for? This is a great question, because they already possess the traits that are in very high demand.
Loyalty
Are you kidding me on this one? They left their comfortable lives, families, and friends, for the unknown. They stood in front of our American flag and swore an oath to something bigger than themselves. And then, they followed through. They never wavered. Veterans are loyal to their teammates, the company, and the mission. If you place a veteran in a company and give them a task, I promise you that it will get done. Not because of money, but because they are loyal to their duties. Hire them!
Leaders
Veterans know how to inspire those around them. They had to do it before, in some very interesting places and situations. They are mentors and coaches. Have you ever looked around a company and been able to spot a veteran? I have. They are usually the person helping someone else out. They care more about the success of others than themselves. Who wouldn’t want that type of person in their company? Companies today are begging for these types of people. Hire them!
Highly Skilled
Veterans have gone through extensive training, and they have excelled at what they have done. They have been trained in skills such as emergency medicine, information intelligence, cyber security, physical security, engineering, mechanics, electronics, communications, and a score of other fields and specialties. They went through the best schools in our country to learn these skills, and once again, they excelled. Not only did they learn a skill, but they were also taught to think on their feet, remain calm under pressure, make critical decisions, and deal with conflict and stress. They have all the tools to be successful in whatever they do in life. Hire them!
Strong Work Ethic and Integrity
Veterans know how to get the job done and will not stop until it is done. They learned this during their time in service. Failure is not an option for a veteran. They are used to working long hours and doing what it takes to complete the job. And, they do it with a level of honesty and integrity that is second to none. They are men and women of high character with strong morals to guide them. Hire them!
Veterans are the best men and women that our country has to offer! To become a veteran, they had to serve. And to serve, the veteran had to pass a very extensive screening process. They had to be the best of the best. They had to have the mental capacity, physical abilities, and moral background to be selected to serve. Many statistics speak to how many people can actually serve and those that have served. Did you know only 7.3% of our population has ever served or is currently serving? That means veterans, in my opinion, are in the top 8% of our population. Hire them!
We here at LER TechForce know what veterans bring to the table. We also understand and truly appreciate the sacrifices they have made to enjoy our freedoms. We hire veterans! We want to hire many more veterans! We have built our LER Military program around them and supported them in our employee resource group. LER VETS.
