1. How has your mentor helped shape your internship?

Kheng Sheng: My mentors have been instrumental in my growth, providing valuable insights into the industry and guiding me through complex projects. They have encouraged me to take on challenging tasks, while offering moral support and confidence to complete them. Regular feedback sessions have also helped refine my analytical and strategic thinking abilities.?

Outside of work, my mentors have also been highly supportive of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. They have advised me on managing workload and stress, ensuring I remain productive and motivated without burning out. Additionally, they have guided me in identifying the skills and experiences necessary for advancing within the sustainability and investment sectors.?

Jovan: My mentors have been patient and nurturing, taking my learning objectives seriously and engaging in discussions that deepen my understanding. They provide constructive feedback, share valuable insights, and involve me in significant projects, greatly enhancing my internship experience.??

2. What’s something surprising you’ve learned about the industry or your role that you didn’t expect?

Kheng Sheng: I am impressed by the rapid pace of technological advancements and their significant impact on sustainability. Additionally, the collaborative nature of the industry, with various stakeholders working together to achieve net-zero goals, has been truly impressive. Given my limited experience, I was also pleasantly surprised by how open and receptive my team was to my ideas and strategies.

Jovan: I am amazed by the rapid advancements in sustainability technology. Innovations I once thought were only possible in science fiction are now implemented in real life.

3. Have you had the opportunity to work with different departments or teams? What did you learn from those experiences?

Kheng Sheng: During my tenure, I collaborated with the Carbon Credits team and the Renewable Energy Certificates team, providing market insights and strategic plans to drive market expansion regionally and globally. Working with these teams has taught me the importance of cross-functional communication and how different perspectives can lead to more comprehensive and effective strategies.?

Jovan: I had the chance to work with both the Platform and Carbon Credits team, both of which were excellent experiences. I was able to put my technical skills to the test as I developed Excel models for them. Through this, I learnt to adapt and gained different perspectives on problem-solving, which I believe are crucial skills to have.?

4. What emerging trends in the industry do you think will have the most significant impact in the future?

Kheng Sheng: I believe the adoption of blockchain technology for tracking and trading RECs and carbon credits globally will be crucial for ensuring and boosting transparency.?

Jovan: New energy storage systems will ensure that renewable energy can be integrated into power grids more effectively, providing a stable and reliable energy supply. This will give societies greater access to renewable energy, thus advancing progress towards a net-zero world.

5. What's one piece of advice you wish you could give yourself at the start of your internship or to new interns?

Kheng Sheng: Embrace every learning opportunity and do not be afraid to ask questions. The more you inquire, the more you will understand and grow.?

Jovan: Try new things to the best of your abilities. The value of learning something new far exceeds sticking to familiar things merely for a sense of safety.?
