1. Can you describe some of the ways that you grew during your time as an intern??
Le Min: During my time here, I've honed my skills in stakeholder management and become much more adept at managing my time effectively by balancing multiple tasks and deadlines. Being provided with opportunities to lead certain initiatives here has taught me the importance of taking ownership and accountability, driving projects forward with dedication and responsibility.? ?
Adele: I’ve experienced significant personal and professional growth. I became less introverted, more open to new experiences and more comfortable meeting new people. Applying?digital marketing skills from school to real-life scenarios gave me practical experience.?I also expanded my knowledge of?sustainability terms and their impact on clients and GoNetZero?.?
2. What have you learned about the industry that you didn’t know before your internship??
Le Min: I've gained a?better understanding of the urgency for industries to decarbonise and how deeply interconnected various industries are when it comes to environmental sustainability. It's been eye-opening to understand the hurdles and complexities each industry faces in their decarbonisation journey, from reducing carbon emissions to transitioning to renewable energy sources. More importantly, it has highlighted the importance of collaboration among diverse stakeholders, including businesses, governments, NGOs, and communities, to effectively address global climate challenges.? ?
Adele:?I discovered the profound impact sustainability initiatives can have on businesses and communities. Learning about the complexities of integrating renewable energy solutions and their contribution to long-term environmental goals has deepened my?appreciation for the industry's role in fostering a greener future.?
3. Can you describe a particularly fun or memorable day at work??
Le Min: I had the opportunity to attend a talk where shipping industry professionals discussed their decarbonisation roadmaps and challenges. It was incredibly inspiring to see their collective efforts towards meeting global climate targets. Listening to their insights and experiences not only expanded my knowledge but also fueled my motivation to contribute meaningfully to the sustainability space and my role at GoNetZero?. Despite spending most of my time working behind the screen, this experience reminded me of the larger goal we're all working towards.?

Adele: A particularly memorable day was assisting with GoNetZero?’s?food donation drive. Seeing the marketing plans come to fruition was incredibly fulfilling. It was a powerful experience to be part of something bigger and it has inspired me to contribute to greater causes during my tenure here.?

4. What’s something about your role that people might find surprising?? ?
Le Min: People might be surprised to learn how much data informs our marketing strategies. Beyond creativity, analysing trends, campaign performance metrics and understanding human behaviour are crucial in shaping marketing decisions. Plus, there's a lot of trial and error involved. What works in one industry might not work in another, so adaptability is key.? ?
Adele: As a marketing and PR intern, I’ve encountered many misconceptions about what we do. People are often surprised to learn that marketing encompasses much more than just advertising and social media. It includes content marketing, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), email marketing, public relations, branding, and product marketing. All these disciplines work together to enable a company's Go-To-Market (GTM) approach. This internship has shown me that marketing is truly the heart of the business, driving its success in numerous ways.?
5. Is there a particular project or task you’ve worked on that you feel has made a significant impact??
Le Min: One memorable project was our 'Let's Go Net Zero!' Sustainability Campaign. We organised a series of internal sustainability activities in celebration of Earth Day, aiming to raise awareness and promote actionable steps towards a greener future. One particularly impactful initiative was our food donation drive, which raised 180kg of food donations for 600 beneficiaries. Seeing the tangible impact of our efforts on individuals and communities was incredibly rewarding. ??
Adele: Yes! While I can't disclose the specifics, I worked on developing and finding inspiration for a communication collateral that will be launched soon. This project is gradually taking shape and will become a frequently used communication tool. Seeing my contributions play a role in this significant project has been incredibly rewarding, and I eagerly anticipate its final implementation.?
