The Next-Gen Data Center: Sustainable Liquid Cooling For AI & HPC

Welcome to The Next-Gen Data Center! Follow along as we explore the data center technologies that are bridging the gap between sustainability and high-performance computing that has surged with the emergence of AI.

In this edition, we’ll explore the cooling strategies that performance- and sustainability-minded data center operators are using to enable the highest sustained performance and reach zero-emission goals. From the research desk at McKinsey to NVIDIA GTC 2024, a lot of attention has been given to the potential of waterless direct-to-chip liquid cooling technologies in solving the sustainability problem for the age of AI + HPC.

Our ZutaCore experts cover how and why this solution is prepared to cool the hottest processors of 1500 watts and beyond as we set our sights on a zero-emissions data industry.

THE 21 HOTTEST PRODUCTS AT NVIDIA GTC 2024

Over the years, NVIDIA has assembled an enormous ecosystem of the IT industry’s top hardware and software manufacturers. All are hard at work building cutting-edge products based on NVIDIA’s world-class GPU and other technologies. The NVIDIA GTC event in mid-March provided a forum for showcasing some of the most exciting new hardware and software products.

After the event, CRN — a media brand of The Channel Company — released a roundup of the top 21 technologies seen in exhibits at the conference. As the No. 1 trusted source for IT channel news, analysis and insight online and in print, this list is a ringing endorsement for the highlighted companies.

ZutaCore is proud to have made a splash as the only liquid cooling product on CRN’s list of the hottest products at NVIDIA GTC 2024. Explore the full list and spot the coverage of our cutting-edge cooling solution on page 20. Read More.

WATERLESS, DIRECT-TO-CHIP LIQUID COOLING COMES TO NVIDIA GPUS

The direct-to-chip liquid cooling ecosystem just got a whole lot stronger. At GTC 2024 on March 17-21, ZutaCore announced support for NVIDIA’s advanced H100 and H200 GPUs, paving the way towards a more sustainable AI future.?

This year’s conference was highly anticipated, with a keynote by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and over 900 sessions, 300 exhibits, and 20 technical workshops, but two topics dominated: the arrival of the large-scale generative AI era and the enormous processing power demands that come along with this new generation of high-performance computing.

The HyperCool system is set up to become a critical enabler, lowering costs for sustainable AI infrastructure — even with the most demanding next-generation GPUs. With GTC in the books, the industry is abuzz with the potential of the ZutaCore HyperCool technology, including recent commentary from:

  • Dev Tyagi, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at Boston Limited
  • Andy Lin, Server Product Marketing Manager at Pegatron
  • Steve Ichinaga, President, Hyve Solutions Corporation

See what they’re saying, and why HyperCool has proven its power as a groundbreaking cooling solution. Read More.

DATA CENTER SUSTAINABILITY: HOW TO SAVE THE PLANET

Last year, McKinsey analysis showed that cooling accounts for some 40% of a data center’s energy consumption. While cooling tech has evolved rapidly over the past decade, most large data centers are still in the midst of their transition to optimal cooling designs and away from less efficient, older air cooling systems.

Direct-to-chip liquid cooling stands out in the crowd as the approach that will help companies get past the wall they’re hitting with air-based designs. Hyperscalers understand that liquid is a more effective heat transfer than air, but they don’t want to introduce the risks of water cooling into sensitive facilities — damage from leaks and costly maintenance are non-starters. Direct-to-chip positions data centers to take advantage of both increased power and more sustainable energy use. Read More.

UNIVERSITY OF PISA RETROFITS 10 DELL SERVERS IN 1-DAY WITH ZUTACORE

The University of Pisa has hit a milestone. It’s now able to leverage its servers under full loads — previously unattainable with traditional air cooling — by deploying the ZutaCore HyperCool system. In just one day, a retrofit of 10 state-of-the-art Dell R740XD and C6525 servers with direct-to-chip two-phase dielectric liquid cooling has empowered the university to effectively cool up to 20kW of rack power.?

Learn more about the seamless, efficient retrofit process, how the University chose ZutaCore, and the difference this change will make for their operations. Read More.
