Next-gen cable layer, Irish interconnector expansion, job creation... and more

A mix and match of everything as we are reaching the peak of vacation season. In this edition: the announcement of a next-generation cable-laying vessel, creation of 300 jobs, Ireland's aim to become a renewable electricity exporter, and a couple of successful financial stories.

Nexans is investing in a new third-generation cable-laying vessel in order to support a record project backlog and meet future needs of offshore wind and interconnector projects.

The Irish government has approved a new policy statement on electricity interconnections which will see Ireland explore new interconnection opportunities with Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands, as well as further connections to Great Britain and France.

XOCEAN has opened a new technical center that will serve as a hub for its fleet of uncrewed surface vessels (USVs). As part of its strategic growth plan, the Ireland-based company announced the creation of 300 new jobs.

We have also concluded the first half of 2023. In light of that, companies have reported their second quarter and 1H financial results.

Subsea 7’s revenue for the first half of 2023 was $2.8 billion, a $323 million or 13% increase compared to the first half of 2022, said to be due to significantly increased activity in the Subsea and Conventional business unit.

Fugro has reported a revenue of over €1 billion for the first half of 2023, representing a 24.1% growth from €833 million in the first half of 2022, said to be due to continued high client demand in energy markets.

TechnipFMC has received $4.1 billion in subsea inbound orders in the second quarter of 2023, a 113.4% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Records were set for the iEPCI full-field subsea development and integrated project execution and Subsea 2.0 subsea?production system.
