The next chapter. Time for a change...
2015 has been a great year so far; two months away from our end of year and we have doubled last year’s turnover already, reduced costs and have developed our team at Burfield. At this point I would like to take all the credit, give myself a pat on the back and just sound awesome to the people reading this post. Unfortunately the impact at Burfield has happened because my wife, Caroline, came in as operations director and has built a fantastic business. Caroline has given the business structure, organisation and provided her extensive financial experience to make sure the business grows in the right way.
Those who really know me know that organisation, processes and structure are not my strong points. Honestly, they are all of my weaknesses. So after nine years of day-to-day agency work I have decided to make some changes and one of those is spending less time in the agency and Burfield. I can't completely step away from Burfield and I will continue to focus on developing new business and pitches. I have been flat out since 1999 developing, designing and marketing websites, so it will be nice to move in a different direction.
One of our businesses that have developed quickly over the past couple of years is MXVice.com. The site has grown from 13,000 people (December 2013) to over 250,000 people a month and shows no signs of slowing down growth wise. What has been interesting is the commercial growth of the business over the past six months; suddenly we have become very attractive to brands within the motocross lifestyle industry. Because of the growth of MXVice.com, coupled with my love for motocross, I've made the decision to focus on MXVice.com full time and see how far we can take it. Currently as the site stands it's the biggest site in Europe through visitors, content etc. but when we (MXVice.com team and Burfield) look at where we can go over the next twelve months it's very exciting.
On the back of MXVice.com we have a new e-commerce shop called ViceLife (ItsAViceLife.com) that is three months old and offers branded tees from Famous Stars and Straps, Deft Family, HLTN, LRG, SSUR, Talon and our own brand ViceLife. The shop has reignited my love for SEO and also helped me understand the journey that many Burfield clients have to take from established e-commerce shops through to start-ups.
I'll keep everyone updated with progress on MXVice.com and also ItsAViceLife.com and anything I learn along the way i'll make sure I share with you guys.
Thanks guys for the comments, looking forward to the next 12 months..
Congratulations James, sounds like your on an exciting journey. Bon voyage!
