The Next "Big Thing" in Commercial Real Estate...Satellites!
Modern communications and internet infrastructure have given rise to a new era in which the continents of the globe are once again intimately connected. Goods from one corner of the world are needed in the other and the speed of business has increased dramatically with the rise in demand for efficient sourcing of both products and services. What is happening to meet the mission critical demand of utilizing this deep global infrastructure and the desire to communicate with commercial real estate contacts and their logistics partners (architects, engineers, general contractors, furniture suppliers, etc.) world-wide?
Secure, high availability satellite broadband services along with innovative, specialized communication and geo-location tools such as Google Earth provided to these clients is the next innovation in corporate America and the U.S. commercial real estate industry. These technology solutions are being custom engineered (and developed internally in most cases) and delivered to their buyers, no matter where they may be located to satisfy all types of end users.
The combo of online maps, satellite/aerial imagery, and real estate are a hot combo these days. There are now databases that lists property for sale and gets millions of visitors every month. One will soon provide 15 million photographs growing it to 21 million images by year-end. Both government and commercial focused, these firms consistently adhere to the highest industry standards and offer a reliable span of services, depth of expertise, and unmatched customer commitment. For example, the GSA recently created an agency called Technology Transformation Service (TTS) to consolidate their emerging technology efforts and create a “launch-pad” for the next big technology initiatives,
GSA also create a permanent home for agile and user-centered design in government within TTS. I for one, am incredibly excited to see where TTS takes GSA and the contributions this agency will make in transforming technology in the federal government by both rebuilding its satellite communication's operational security (OPSEC) and mitigating it's OPSEC vulnerabilities. Hopefully, we can rely on this administration to not only focus on right-sizing GSA's buildings and transportation infrastructure, but will also make significant investments in U.S. controlled satellite and teleport infrastructure. The combo of online maps, satellite/aerial imagery, telecommunications and real estate are definitely a hot combo these days!

8 年Thanks, Jim! What I think is interesting is that knowledge of satellite systems or the network(s) that it uses is essentially not required. Satellite imagery has substantially reduced my cost of long-haul traveling to tour sites, too!

8 年The other day I was at a holiday party that inevitably turned to shop talk. A couple of planners were talking about the evolution of all the tools they have based on this kind of data. There's some real work ahead to take advantage of it all - but it offers the potential of some great innovation once all is said and done. Great article!
