The Next Big Thing

I just got home from a ‘content creator’ house party and I met the following people:

• A 21 year old who makes a full time income going to different water slides across the world.
• A guy who just hit 1M followers on YouTube who makes a full time living turning trash into art
• A girl who reviews tech products she had to be younger than 25 with 3M followers on YouTube

Can you believe we live in a world today where you can make full time livings’ doing things like this? Can you believe we have AI editing tools and can hire a virtual assistant to help us with our work while we are sleeping?

20 years from now what will you say when people asked you:

“So YOU knew about the opportunities online of being a content creator and you didn’t do it!?”

What will you say? How will you feel to have missed the greatest opportunity right in front of us?

The Next Big Thing

If you are reading this YOU are the first person I’ve told about what I think the next big thing is because I learned all of this yesterday.

Yesterday per my normal gym routine I went to turn some music on my phone on Spotify but when I did I got completely side tracked because the front of my screen was a Spotify Video Episode?

The creator of this was someone I wasn’t familiar with, never listened to in a category I don’t consume.

The video episode was about Nuclear testing in Utah.?

It felt so random that I was seeing it… and that, my friend, is the gold rush ingredient for someone who has been in the game as long as I have.

I knew watching this video I had discovered something probably only a fraction of people have realized…

THE NEXT CONTENT GOLD RUSH MEDIUM.

SPOTIFY VIDEO EPISODES.

Because I have this lens of looking at the world a little differently than most (and if you have taken any one of my classes I imagine you look at the world differently as well) I have a sense of spotting new opportunities.

Spotify as we all know is the largest music app.

But in recent years it’s made HUGE moves to conquer Apple for podcasts.

And now it’s one of the top podcasts apps as well.

And… I believe from what I’ve witnessed… Spotify is now wanting to compete and conquer YouTube.

Because this ‘video episode’ was not just a podcast video recording with talking heads. It was a full blown YouTube video but on Spotify.

And it’s SO new and the algorithm is so fresh it’s blasting random ass creators content to people like me who have no interest in it. I’ve never listened to a podcast on Spotify - that's how random it was to see it.

I attribute a lot of my success to being really early on TikTok.

I missed my chance of being early on Instagram because “I felt it wasn’t for me” (IDIOT!)

I think Spotify Video Episode is the next big thing for long form content and as with anything new they are going to reward the early content creators.

This week I’m going to make my first Spotify Video Episode.

The only question I have for you is…
