Nexans completes cable link for DolWin6 Offshore Wind Farm
An important milestone for the commissioning of TenneT’s DolWin6 offshore grid connection system was recently reached when the 2x90km long cable was installed and handed over to the German Transmission System Operator. The 320kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) extruded cables will bring sustainable energy from the offshore substation to shore. This further confirms Nexans’ position as a market leader in manufacture and installation of HVDC extruded cable systems.?
The 900 megawatt offshore connection is scheduled to go online in 2023 and further strengthen the energy supply in Germany.?
Prior to this, Nexans had picked up the end section of the 45-kilometer-long subsea cable from the seabed of the North Sea and pulled it into the 56-meter-high offshore platform (DolWin kappa) of the grid connection and connected it in an operation lasting several days in September and October. Following successful completion of the high-voltage tests, the total 90-kilometer cable route between Emden and the offshore platform is now ready to transport electricity.?

“With its offshore grid connections, TenneT is continuing to drive forward the expansion of energy infrastructure in the North Sea, and thereby supporting the German government in achieving its ambitious offshore targets for wind energy. The fact that we will commission our 13th offshore grid connection system in Germany in 2023 is a great success and the result of close cooperation with our various strong project partners," explains TenneT's COO Tim Meyerjürgens.?
“This state-of-the-art HVDC XLPE technology will be a key enabler for the European energy transition, and we are delighted to be able to provide this to TenneT. To further strengthen our contribution to the European energy transition Nexans will continue to expand our business in Europe and will more than double the manufacturing capacity of HVDC extruded cables from our Halden plant by 2024,” says Nexans’ EVP Generation&Transmission, Ragnhild Katteland.?
