For every action there us an equal and opposite reaction. Today's Monday Moment- A reflection on Newton's 3rd Law of Motion. This might be a stretch for Newton but seems plausible for me.
We apply force to an object when we want it to behave in a certain way.
But what about people, can this law work the same on us in spite of our complexities?
What do you want to create?
What do you want for those in your care?
What actions are we applying to create the person we want to grow in to?
What actions are we applying to those in our care in hopes of their betterment?
Scientifically there are quite a few variables that may influence the outcome of forces or actions applied to people. However, this idea seems to be consistent with other moral codes and ethical traditions. Like the Golden Rule - "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" or “Be the change you want to see in the world”.
We model desired behaviors towards others.
We extend trust and safety to those around us.
We work on areas in our lives that need improvement.
The analogy with Newton’s Law is a slippery slope for sure as outcomes are unknown, especially for others. Yet the potential for positive modeling, creativity and growth are present.
In search of a better me and a better we, I think Newton might be on to something.
