Report reveals record tax paid by large corporates
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has published the ninth annual Corporate Tax Transparency (CTT) report revealing large corporates paid a record $83.8 billion in income tax in 2021-22.?The 2021-22 report includes data from 2,713 entities, a net increase of 245 entities, who paid a cumulative total of $83.8b in income tax, which is up 22.2% from the previous year, and almost 50% higher than two years ago.
2.5 million Aussies terrified by AI, tech not meeting their expectations and 85% worried about data security

One in ten homes must be affordable to end homelessness

Everybody’s Home is calling for one in ten homes to be social housing over the next decade as a measure to end homelessness in Australia. The national housing campaign has recommended the 10 per cent target in its submission on the National Housing and Homelessness Plan, which is expected to be released next year. Spokesperson Maiy Azize said about four per cent of Australia’s total housing stock is social housing.
World-first court action against ANZ
In a world first, ANZ shareholder Catherine Rossiter is taking her bank to court over concerns that it is failing to properly manage the material risks of climate change and biodiversity loss. Ms Rossiter, a long-term ANZ shareholder, says her concerns stem from disclosures in ANZ’s 2022 Annual Report that acknowledged climate change and biodiversity loss were “emerging risks”, but didn’t make clear whether those risks were adequately dealt with in the bank’s risk management framework. Australian financial services laws require that financial institutions properly manage material risks, which include emerging material risks.
