Australian researchers make breakthrough discovery on major global health threat: antibiotic resistance
In a world first, scientists have published a study which uses advanced data science to describe and predict when resistance to antibiotics will emerge during treatment for a bacterial infection, based purely on the knowledge of pre-existing bacterial resistance mutations. The researchers, led by Monash University, focused on the antibiotic ‘meropenem’ which is administered intravenously to treat a range of serious bacterial infections such as?meningitis, intra-abdominal infection, pneumonia and sepsis.
House Economics Committee to hear from Reserve Bank of Australia next week
The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Economics will hold its second biannual public hearing with the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), Ms Michele Bullock, on Friday 16 August 2024. Additional RBA representatives will also appear.
