Australia for UNHCR is calling for urgent donations to support the growing number of displaced people fleeing Lebanon for Syria. According to the Lebanese authorities, over 90,000 people have been newly displaced since 23 September, and more are abandoning their homes by the minute. Hundreds of vehicles are backed up in queues at the Syrian border. “The situation is dire and the need for humanitarian assistance is immense,” Australia for UNHCR CEO, Trudi Mitchell, said.??
Cairns event tomorrow - Unprecedented flood, unheard voices: Barron River survivors speak, candidates listen at report launch
Forty-five flood survivors from across the Barron delta have contributed their insights and experiences to a new report being released by the Cairns and Far North Environment Centre (CAFNEC) at Yorkeys Knob Boat Club tomorrow (Saturday, 28 September), 10am - 2pm. The NSW Government has launched a new safety awareness program to highlight the risks of leaving children alone in vehicles.?NSW Early Childhood Education and Care Regulatory Authority Relieving Executive Director Nicholas Backo said children being left alone in vehicles was one of the highest risk areas in early childhood education and care service settings and could put them in grave danger.?NRMA data for the 2023-2024 financial year shows the organisation responded to 677 callouts involving a child locked in a car in NSW.?

Seismic blasting multinational TGS announced this morning that they have decided not to proceed with the Otway blasting plan, withdrawing from NOPSEMA assessment. Under the proposal, TGS were to blast the Otway Basin off the west coast of Victoria with 250 decibels of noise - louder than an atomic bomb - every 10 seconds, 24 hours a day for months on end to search for new oil and gas reserves.?
