ATO collects $100 billion from large corporates
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has published the tenth annual Corporate tax transparency (CTT) report revealing the ATO received $97.9 billion in income tax from large corporates, up 16.7% from the previous year. ATO Deputy Commissioner Rebecca Saint reflected on another record year of tax paid by large corporates: "This is a great result for the Australian community. Tax paid in 2022-23 was again the highest since CTT reporting started."
Saving lives on Aussie beaches: UNSW beach safety program for international students and foreigners to expand state-wide
With long term data showing more than one third of drowning deaths victims were born overseas, UNSW Sydney has been on the forefront of this issue, developing the Beach Ocean Safe program to target overseas students and other migrants who are unfamiliar with Australian beach conditions. Now, the Beach Ocean Safe program will be made available across the state to other universities, as well as migrant and community groups who want to help people in their community stay safe in the water.
Atlassian announces First Quarter Fiscal Year 2025 Results
Atlassian Corporation (NASDAQ: TEAM), a leading provider of team collaboration and productivity software, today announced financial results for its first quarter ended September 30, 2024. “Through the power of our R&D engine, we’re not just marketing AI, we’re shipping it. I’m thrilled our team was able to launch Rovo, our latest product built for the AI era, into general availability just five months since its announcement,” said Mike Cannon-Brookes , Atlassian’s CEO and co-Founder.
Growing number of small businesses in dispute over unpaid money: VSBC Annual Report 2023-24
Almost half (41%) of dispute resolution applications to the Victorian Small Business Commission (VSBC) under the Small Business Commission Act were related to unpaid money, according to its Annual Report 2023-24, tabled in parliament (yesterday). The VSBC is an independent statutory authority tasked with preventing and resolving disputes faced by small businesses, retail tenants and their landlords.

Today,two award-winning profit-to-member superannuation funds, CareSuper and Spirit Super, have merged to create a new fund – CareSuper - with over 550,000 members and $53 billion in assets under management. As previously announced, former Spirit Super CEO Jason Murray is the new CEO of CareSuper. Linda Scott, who’s been Chair of CareSuper since April 2022, has been appointed Chair of the merged entity.
Private hospital financial review confirms serious viability issues
Catholic Health Australia (CHA) welcomes the federal government’s report on the Private Hospital Sector Financial Viability Health Check released today, which confirms the sector is facing serious viability issues. “This report confirms what we have been saying for a long time — that the private health sector is under severe and unprecedented funding pressure, especially in mental health and maternity care,” said Catholic Health Australia Director of Health Policy Dr Katharine Bassett.
Car theft reaches 10-year high, security check essential says RACV
RACV is encouraging Victorians to keep vehicle security top of mind with the latest Victorian Crime Statistics Data revealing car theft levels in Victoria are at a ten-year high. Car thefts are up by almost 25 per cent, with more than 23,248 thefts or attempted thefts of motor vehicles recorded across Victoria in the 12 months to June 2024 – a 4,500 offence increase in twelve months. Items stolen from inside vehicles increased by 17.2 per cent with 9,000 offences.
Government credibility fails at the first hurdle with gas ban laws
The Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association of Australia (GAMAA) today expressed its deep disappointment at the Victorian Government’s ramming through of the Building Legislation Amendment 2024 to give the energy minister the power to ban the installation of new or replacement gas appliances in the existing residential and commercial sectors.
Solar and battery incentives will reduce power bills and harmful emissions
