A newsletter structure to help you grow your email list in 2024

25th November is the day I published my first newsletter on Substack.

It was a weird feeling and I had no idea, I’d commit to it for this long.

It’s been 19 weeks and I am consistently pushing out one newsletter (sometimes two) weekly.

And here’s what has helped me to be consistent — Structure.

I am a sucker for systems and structures. I know and have seen that when you have a system in place for something, you save time and energy.

Ideas flow out easily and you can make the most out of your capacity.

So far, I have grown to 515 subscribers and 605 followers who are hell-bent on improving their lives with me. This responsibility has pushed me to keep improving the structure of my newsletters.

P.S. If you find this useful, please follow.

Here’s what I have been doing so far —

I have a draft layout structure that I copy-paste every week.

As you can see in the image below, I have a topic for discussion. This may be related to any of my content pillars.

Below that, I have the personalised section. That’s where I share a life update to build a connection with my community.

The next three pointers — Food for thought, a book/article to read and a YouTube video, aren’t necessary for every week. Sometimes that’s all. Sometimes that’s none. I don’t push it.

The last pointer is the crucial one. It helps me show my community that I genuinely care about them. This is where I attach a screenshot of a message or comment that caught my eye that week.

This is me, going the extra mile to appreciate my audience.

Here’s what I plan to add more—

Even though everything I added above works for me, I still want to experiment and improve.

That’s why, this week onwards I have added three new pointers to my newsletter structure.

Some might argue that it’s a lot to add, but giving more value never harms anyone. It will only help me weigh my calibre as a service provider.

Also, all the new pointers are dedicated to growing my solopreneur business and informing my audience about what I do.
