Future events and opportunities

• We have a new vacancy for a lecturer position!?????? The future lecturer, will be especially involved in our Master Governance of Sustainability Transformations, teaching courses on (transnational) environmental law and in the new Bachelor of Marine Sciences. Application deadline: 13th November 2023.
• We are also looking for a?lecturer/researcher?for a?one-year fixed-term maternity cover in law.?????? This temporary position is the perfect way to gain teaching experience in our?Master's specialization Food Law and Regulatory Affairs and complete a research project.?Application deadline: 13th November 2023.

• Are you a researcher who believes in the importance of interdisciplinary research on biodiversity and loves zoos????? Then sign up for the workshop “Creating international impact with Dutch biodiversity research” run by our colleague Edwin Alblas during the NWO Symposium. Application deadline: 1st November 2023.

What happened during this month?

• We are thrilled to announce that we have recently hired two new amazing lecturers, Francesca Leucci, PhD and Saide Esra Akdogan, PhD ?? .?????? Francesca will join our environmental team with a background in environmental law and economics and Esra will teach in the food law team with a background in trade and sustainable development.
• Congratulations to our PhD student Chad Osorio for an outstanding sequence of successes!???? He won the 2023 Sen Prize awarded by Yale's Global Justice Program, won the WASS PhD Day Best Presentation, and presented a paper with Daniel Bertram (EUI) at the NCHR Conference 2023: Planetary Crises and International Human Rights at Universitetet i Oslo (UiO) .
• Earlier this month, Nadia Bernaz spoke at the "Rule of Law and Corporate Actors: Fall Talks Series", organized by the brilliant Olena Uvarova .???? If you want to (re)watch this brilliant ?event, you can find the recorded video on ruleoflawbiz.com!

• As part of the same Rule of Law series, Kacper Zajac, PhD moderated a fascinating discussion on Horizontal effect of the Rule of Law in the practice of the European Court of Human Rights , featuring many prominent speakers including the former president of the Court.
• Are you looking for a book that puts into relation law and energy systems???? (Re)watch the online presentation of the upcoming book "Law in the EU’s Circular Energy System: Biowaste, Biogas and Biofuel" edited by our chair Josephine van Zeben and Lucila de Almeida !

• Congratulations to?visiting phd-researcher?Enrico Mezzacapo?and former visiting phd Francesca Coli?for being among the?winners of Transformative Research challenge "Global One Health"?organized by 联合国粮农组织 and World Food Forum !??? We also want to congratulate everyone who contributed to this work, especially?Edwin Alblas?who mentored the project.

• How are corporations' activities regulated in outer space????? Our colleague Chiara Macchi discussed this fascinating topic during a fascinating PhD Seminar organized by Università di Pisa .
• In July, the European Commission presented a long-awaited proposal for a law to improve soil health in Europe.?????? Do you want to know Wageningen University & Research's opinion on this proposal? Read our Scientific Response to the European Union, to which Edwin Alblas contributed.
• Our colleagues Mirta Alessandrini and Saide Esra Akdogan, PhD ?? took part in the ICON-S Benelux Chapter Inaugural Conference hosted by Maastricht University Faculty of Law .????? Mirta presented her new work on Short Food Supply Chains, while Esra chaired the Panel Setting a Sustainable Future in the EU and presented her work on Effective Enforcement of Obligation of the EU under Trade and Sustainable Development Chapters.
