Newsletter, October 2022

Every divorce is traumatic and every person affected by it is different and has specific needs. The situation is all the more complicated when the children are involved. They are in a particularly disadvantaged position, which makes them vulnerable and less regarded by the authorities, Courts or lawyers that will decide for them where to live and be educated.

This is even more difficult when at least one of the parents would like to move with the children in another country, usually his/her native country.

In such cases, we consider that development of crossborder assistance to minors is mandatory and the Cooperation among authorities is essential.

That’s why, Justice for Minors NGO focuses a lot on the treatment of children during their parents divorce or separation.?

We have a unique project of multidisciplinary team and new methodology to approach the very sensitive issue of any child that has to face the divorce of his/her parents.

For these reasons, JfM chooses to gather within International Cooperation Department law experts and family law specialists, lawyers and mediators, child psychologists and social workers, journalists and paralegals from Romania, Europe and beyond. We have reached colleagues from different countries that believe in our projects and that have experience in international family law cases. We have seen cases when claiming child maintenance from parents that live abroad or in every crossborder family arrangement, that the authorities and the legal experts need to collaborate and to trust each other. Ideally, an agreement is reached with family mediation, because of less expensive, less stressful and more amicable and faster than in court.

The best interest of the child needs to be the first thought of every parent and legal expert that deals with family law cases and international parental abduction.

Until the end of this year, we will continue organising Working Groups, our first European Child Abduction Prevention Award and Justice for Minors Annual Conference, all addressing the up mentioned topic. These events will be taking place online and we are happy to receive emails for more information and participation.?

As Organiser, we plan to invite not only the representatives of our country and our Team, but also a large number of experts and practitioners from Romania and EU.

The aim of the Working Groups is to exchange experiences and good practices, most importantly in the areas of family mediation and litigation, children’s rights, prevention of parental abduction and how to increase knowledge among youth and adults on the children’s rights and, especially, on the advantages of family mediation.?

During our meetings, we will also deal with other topics, such as:?

1)the benefits of becoming a member of our organisation

2) involvement of youth in child Abduction prevention and children’s rights awareness.

We hope you enjoy reading this newsletter, and I would like to thank all our members for their involvement and contributions.

We look forward to all the knowledge and best practice sharing.
