AfricaNenda Foundation Joins the D4D Hub Civil Society and Academia Advisory Group

We are proud to announce our recent acceptance as a member of the civil society and academia advisory group within the Digital for Development (D4D) Hub, a pioneering platform fostering collaboration between various stakeholders for a sustainable and inclusive digital transformation. The D4D Hub, established in December 2020 by the European Union and its Member States, champions a human-centric approach to digital transformation. It serves as a conduit for international digital partnerships and multi-stakeholder collaboration, with a presence in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia-Pacific, and the EU neighbouring countries.

Ethiopia's Digital Payments Journey: Leveraging the National Digital Transformation Strategy 2025

Ethiopia is embarking on a digital transformation journey that it hopes will enable it to achieve its development goals and drive inclusive prosperity. The National Digital Transformation Strategy, also known as 'Digital Ethiopia 2025', serves as the roadmap for Ethiopia's approach. One element is the digital payment eco-system. In this blog, we offer background on the origins of Ethiopia’s efforts to drive digital payments, how the country has propelled exponential growth in digital payments over the past four years, and how Digital Ethiopia 2025 could continue that momentum.

In 2023, AfricaNenda celebrated major achievements, including forming partnerships with the African Union Commission, which bolstered collaborative efforts within the payment ecosystem, and launching a fully operational real-time payments platform in Rwanda.

How instant payment systems across Africa can be the role model for the world

More than half of all countries in Africa already have an instant payment system that allows every person, business, or government entity to transfer money to each other, no matter which bank or financial service provider they use. We believe it is possible to establish such inclusive instant payment systems in every African country by 2030.

Unlocking Women’s Economic Power In Africa Through Digital Public Infrastructure

Despite the remarkable growth in digital financial services that enable millions of Africans to save, borrow and engage in economic activities, a stark reality persists. For many women across the continent, this revolution remains frustratingly out of reach. Only 37% of women in sub-Saharan Africa have a bank account, compared to 48% of men; and approximately 310 million fewer women than men use mobile internet.

AfricaNenda Boosts Access To Affordable Payments In Africa

In 2023, AfricaNenda began providing technical assistance for new instant payment system exploratory projects in Guinea, Cabo Verde, and South Sudan, in addition to collaborating with Rwanda switch operator to expand use cases ?and supporting efforts in the CEMAC and SADC regions to enhance the inclusivity and interoperability of their cross-border payment systems.
