The giant Dutch group Heineken has just launched a new line of soft drinks in Brazil, the Clash'd. It’s going to be the first 100% natural brewed soft drink in the local market. Already known by its famous green bottle beer, the group is also investing in the soft drinks premium line, therefore launching Clash'd. Heineken group already markets the low-sugar soft drink brand FYS and the traditional Itubaína, água Schin, Schin T?nica, Viva Schin and Skinka in Brazil.?

Clash'd is being offered in a 269ml can, in 3 different flavors:

Mondelez's billion

The American multinational Mondelez is investing in the Brazilian market, due to the growing sales success in the country. The company will invest R$1 billion with the expansion of factories until 2024. This announcement represents good news for local suppliers, since it means 70% more investments in relation to the last two years.

Brazil is one of the five largest markets for the company, which has the challenge of doubling its global growth plan by 2030. To reach such goals, the company’s main plan is to invest in chocolates, cakes and cookies (baked snacks), given that, although candies and juices still have growth possibilities, these items already reach a more limited level of expansion in developed markets.

Among the total volume to be allocated, R$400 million will be used to increase production in the plants in Paraná and Pernambuco. "It is a large investment concerning production. In chocolate, we have already reached the limit and we will increase the overall capacity by about 30%," says to Pipeline Liel Miranda – who has been the company’s CEO since 2019.

U.S. plant-based foods sector shows "momentum and resilience," PBFA report points out

In its 2022 market summary report, the Plant Based Foods Association took a deep dive into the category and identified key trends ahead.

Despite a drop in sales last year, according to several plant-based category leaders, overall, the U.S. plant-based foods sector grew by 6.6%, bringing $8 billion to the category during the period.

Such increase was driven by the plant-based foods industry momentum and resiliency, as well as the access and awareness of both existing and future innovative options, according to Julie Emmett, vice president of marketplace development at PBFA.

The increase of the plant-based sales comes from a growing option of conventional and flexitarian (flexible and vegetarian) consumers, according to the report. Sixty percent of total U.S. households are regularly purchasing plant-based alternatives in place of conventional animal products, 80% of these consumers have been repeating purchases.

Activities involving animal-based foods sales have already declined, not only represented by consumption, but by the offering of plant-based options on restaurant menus.

Despite the economic and environmental benefits emerging from the rise of plant-based foods, consumers are still largely motivated by health, according to the report. So too, the environment is the second motivating factor, followed by animal welfare.
