Newsletter August 2023

It’s been an exciting summer in the northern hemisphere at Gemini as we build the AI Platform for Sports.

New Faces & Positions Available - Principal Data Scientist:

The team is growing, and we’ve recently added two more sharp minds:

  • Amod Sahasrabudhe joined after spending time with Villarreal C.F. and the United States Soccer Federation while completing an M.S. in Artificial Intelligence from Northeastern University. His research on counterattacks in soccer was published at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference.
  • Hugo Rios-Neto joins after helping to create an analytics department from scratch at Atlético Mineiro in Brazil. Hugo remains a core researcher in the Sports Analytics Lab at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, from where he has published at StatsBomb’s conference and spoken at the Opta Forum about his work on off-ball-movement.

We are looking to hire a Principal Data Scientist with outstanding management skills, a dogged product-orientation, and passion for innovation. Strong preference will be given to candidates who have experience with AI Cloud and AutoML products.

Does this sound like you or do you know a great fit? We would love to hear from you! Apply here.

Gemini x StatsBomb Partnership:

We are proud to be one of the founding members of global soccer data provider StatsBomb’s new Partner Program. StatsBomb data is now engineered and available to all mutual clients in the Gemini application! Gemini’s CEO Jake Schuster described the partnership as “Another exciting step towards aligning and making easily available the most important datasets that sporting organizations harness to make key decisions”.

Benefits of this partnership to mutual customers include:

  • The ability to run dozens of machine learning models on StatsBomb data in minutes using Gemini’s AI Cloud to provide deeper insights and projections.
  • Clean, organized data: Clubs save countless hours of time via Gemini eliminating the need to engineer, architect and maintain StatsBomb data for machine learning readiness.
  • Supporting a data-driven recruitment workflow. StatsBomb’s industry-leading global coverage of football leagues combined with Gemini’s AI platform allows clubs to easily find traits specific to their game style and quickly analyze thousands of players to identify shortlists that align with their recruiting criteria.

You’ll also catch our team at the StatsBomb conference at London’s Wembley Stadium on Tuesday the 10th of October. Read more about the partnership here.

Product Updates:

The latest iteration of the Gemini Sports Analytics App introduces a series of sweeping enhancements to improve user experience.

  1. Improved back-end architecture - Our product and engineering teams have done a mountain of work behind the scenes to dramatically enhance speed and application stability.
  2. Refined prediction process - We’ve evolved the feature engineering workflow, giving users the ability to easily select one, multiple, or all features when building a model all on one page.
  3. Remove outdated predictions - Our third new feature gives users greater control of their data and fosters a clutter-free environment by simplifying the removal process. Thanks to everyone who gave us feedback on this!

We have some big new features and product updates to come in September that we are excited to share with you all soon!

Gemini in the Field:

We were invited to present at the NBA’s tech expo at this year's Summer League, held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jake, Mat, Troy, and Ally had a great time chatting with so many folks working in the NBA about the incoming ‘pose’ three-dimensional tracking data and the opportunities this is going to facilitate to create new metrics that drive a deeper understanding of the game of basketball.

We are always looking to be at the forefront of new and emerging tools for our clients, and DataBricks is one of our key technology partners at Gemini. DataBricks allows us to harness both structured and unstructured datasets and make them available for our clients in our sports data LakeHouse. Our Data Architect, Troy Carter was able to attend the DataBricks Data + AI Summit in San Francisco and network with some of the brightest minds in AI and technology.

Thanks for being a part of our mission at Gemini Sports Analytics! If you’d like to book a demo - click here. We’ll see you soon.
