Newsletter #46
Mitsubishi Electric Living Environmental Systems UK
Cooling, Heating, Ventilation and Controls
Welcome to the 46th edition of our Sustainability & Construction newsletter!
As we approach the end of 2024, the construction and built environment sectors are brimming with momentum. This month, our CPD Webinar on September 9th will explore The Future of Air Conditioning. We also highlight how Mitsubishi Electric is helping building owners and managers meet Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) through innovative renewable solutions.
The drive toward Net Zero is accelerating, with key webinars from the Science-Based Targets initiative (October 17th) and the UK Green Building Council (September 11th) offering guidance on decarbonisation frameworks. With two-thirds of professionals now working on Net Zero projects, updates to the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard on September 10th are crucial for advancing these goals.
In our construction voices, Laura Broderick , Head of Partnerships & Programmes at the Building Centre , highlights the role of innovation, collaboration, and sustainability in curating impactful construction exhibitions like the upcoming "New Homes in New Ways" on October 24th.
Read on for insights, upcoming webinars, and expert perspectives to help you stay ahead in the journey toward Net Zero!

Join us for latest CPD Webinar: The Future of Air Conditioning on the 9th September 2024 at 11.00am, where we will consider the main aspects of change in air conditioning systems and consider the best ways these can be applied to optimise energy performance, reduce carbon emissions and deliver high quality indoor environments for occupants now and in the future.
Renewable technologies and contractors are helping building owners and managers address the MEES challenge. With a new government now in place, the UK’s drive to Net Zero and greater use of renewable energy has been reinvigorated.
The industry consultation on the 2025 Future Homes Standard (FHS) was issued in December last year, to cries of ‘missed opportunity’ from many in the industry, due to its relatively less demanding energy efficiency targets than some had been expecting. The body believes that a ‘further standard’ will have to be introduced “shortly after the FHS, to finish the job.”

Construction Voices:
Here, we invite people to share their valuable insights and expertise on creating a sustainable built environment. This week we include an article written by Laura Broderick , Head of Partnerships & Programmes at the Building Centre .?
Curating a successful exhibition in the construction industry.
In the world of architecture and construction, leading on partnerships and programmes means being in tune with the issues and innovations of today. An exhibition can be a goldmine of inspiration and networking, and that is what we work towards at the Building Centre.?
For me, it is not just about highlighting projects or products; it's about creating connections, sparking ideas and encouraging new industry collaborations. We are coming to the end of our second year of retrofit themed programming, and are currently planning our third retrofit exhibition and event series to open in spring 2025.?
Before then our next showcase, New Homes in New Ways, will focus on modern methods of construction as one answer to tackling the housing crisis and providing affordable homes. As this programme launches on 24th October and is happening under a new Labour government, we hope it will help drive the conversations in the right direction.?
Do you have a framework for organising an exhibition?
Yes – absolutely – without this, we could not draw in the exceptional professionals from across architecture, engineering and the wider construction sector. It’s a balance of showcasing their passion for solutions and collaborative possibilities.?
To begin with, it helps to understand your audience - their interests and challenges. My process is then to develop a programme then includes:?
By focusing on innovation, diversity and sustainability, you create an environment ripe for discovery and collaboration. This approach not only elevates any exhibition but also moves the industry forward, making it a key opportunity for professionals eager to shape the future.
What aspect of organising an exhibition do you find most challenging or rewarding?? ?
I enjoy working with all our partners and designers to make this a reality. The essence of a successful architecture and construction exhibition lies in its ability to offer informative and interactive experiences. And we can only achieve this through great partnership work. This approach delivers a result to engage our audience, but also fosters a sense of community that resonates long after the show concludes. It's an investment in the future of the built environment profession and a testament to the Building Centre’s role within it. The challenging part is juggling the deadlines!
