Newsletter 42: Education 3.0 - Why It's Time to 'Jump That Curve'
John Thomas Kelly ??
School Director and Founder of Colegio Ikigai ?? The Future of Education 3.0
"Can it be done?" That is the essential question that every entrepreneur asks themselves at some point in the startup process. To initiate any business venture, such as establishing a new school, I worked with the approach of continually posing this question across all areas of the institution, particularly concerning how we can integrate Education 3.0 concepts into the life of the school.
This is easier said than done.
What is interesting to me is how many people tell me that Education 3.0 projects cannot be done. It seems the mindset for success in any business is actually just believing something can be done and picking yourself up every time it goes wrong. Solving problems, it seems to me, is the most important skill you can develop in life.
There is so much value in finding solutions to problems, and we all know we don't get paid for our time in life; we get paid for how much value we add. I believe parents choose a school for their children based on how much value it will add to them over their school career.
The most evident area for innovation at Colegio Ikigai is within the realm of project-based learning. With approximately 100 children enrolled, aged three to thirteen, in the past term, we successfully crafted a portfolio booklet for each grade. This achievement, facilitated by AIxPBL and Phillip Alcock, has led to a significant enhancement in the pedagogical structure of our projects.
This could be really enhanced by EDUmetaverse and Andrew Wright by providing moments we can jump in and out of 3D worlds.
However, I do want to challenge the school, the students, the teachers, and the parents to take the next step in the upcoming round of phenomenon-based learning by attempting to leverage AI to generate 100 distinct projects, 100 different projects, tailored to each of the 100 students in the institution.
Hyper-personalization. Projects which solve real-world problems but are shaped by the creative and emotional potential of each student and content which can support the learning, especially in Maths and Spanish.
"Can it be done?"
The initial step is to engage with students, parents, and teachers, gathering as much information as possible about their preferences and dislikes, soliciting feedback from the current projects, and commencing the construction of a comprehensive profile for each student, outlining their prevailing learning preferences.
The learning objectives for each student can be different in my opinion, and if we were to have an AI application that could record and continually use all of this data about the children, then theoretically we could start to embed multiple transdisciplinary outcomes, tailor the content to be at the right lexical levels, tailor the visual elements of the portfolio to hit all our standards across the board, national and international standards.
I am sure it can be done.

Can this be done?
I would love to develop an AI system for a school that would allow me to interrogate all the data I currently have in the school. Voice and camera activated and somehow attached to me as I walk around the school.
I could walk into a classroom and I can ask the AI how class is coming along. Are all the children learning? What are their current Math levels? Why isn't student X or student Y in the school today? If I identify a learning problem, the AI can help me find a learning solution. It can help me create rolling agendas and meetings across the school, it can help me budget and find cost-effective ways to implement solutions.
This is the vision for Education 3.0 - hyper-personalized perspectives of learning, infused with high-quality data points about individual students and schools.
The future of Education when we look through the prism of Education 3.0 is a world that allows our students to learn at anything, at any time, with anyone and at their own pace, is so rich and so exciting, we should all be asking, "can it be done."

8 个月I know you are just ideating in this. But I do find it odd the aspect of walking into a class and knowing immediately through technology what numbers/grades are associated with each student. Surely hyper-personalization will invoke a more qualitative experience in education.
