Some people keep telling me that they don’t need to know the algorithm, as long as they keep creating quality content they are good to go. Yes, it’s true that high-quality and relevant content rules but here’s the deal!

The algorithm is like the DJ of the LinkedIn party. It decides which posts get to be the life of the party and which ones get left in the corner. So, if you want your posts to be the belle of the ball, you need to know how to work the algorithm.

It's all about getting the right beat and rhythm, ya know? Think of it like a dance-off, you want to be the best on the floor and the algorithm is your partner.

#1 Get Personal

Who said LinkedIn has to be all business, all the time? Personal stories, selfies, and showing your face can help you connect with your audience on a more personal level. Remember, people do business with people!


#2 Posting Frequency

Good news! As an author, you can now show up with multiple posts in the feed. However, be mindful of how often you post. It's recommended to give each post at least 2 hours to grow and a break of 18 hours between posts.


#3 Nurture Your Own Posts

Interaction is key on LinkedIn! Make sure to respond to comments within the first 12 hours to keep your post growing.


#4 Perfect Post Length

The sweet spot for post length is between 1,200 and 1,600 characters, roughly 15-20 lines. Keep your audience engaged and reading with a well-crafted post.


#5 Stick Around

Engage with at least 3-4 other posts after you publish your own to increase visibility. LinkedIn values your time and engagement!

#6 Creator Mode

Using Creator Mode can help grow your followers and reach, but make sure you post 2-3 times a week and that your content resonates with your audience. Relevancy is key!


#7 Format Still Matters but Aim for Quality

In our recently published 4th Annual Algorithm research, slide decks (PDF) performed well but they change in the first quarter of 2023. So, focus on creating high-quality content instead of flooding generic content on people's feeds!


#8 Perfect Post Recipe

Make sure your post includes a trigger in the first 3 lines, a scroll stopper, at least 8 lines of text, 3-5 hashtags, tags for people and companies, and a call to action.


#9 Video Tips

Make snackable videos between 20-60 seconds, in a square format with subtitles, and upload native to LinkedIn for best results.


#10 Check Your Social Selling Index (SSI)

LinkedIn rewards members with an SSI over 70 with more reach. Check your score at https://www.dhirubhai.net/sales/ssi.


#11 Hashtag Wisely

Use 3-5 hashtags per post for best results. Too many hashtags (over 10) can actually hurt your reach.


#12 Avoid Negative Engagement

Unfollows, disconnections, removal from mentions, and reported content can negatively impact the growth of your post.


#13 First Engagement Matters

Your first action of engagement has the biggest impact. So, think twice before you "like" and then "comment." A comment has more positive impact on the algorithm.


#14 Magic in the First 90 Minutes

LinkedIn analyzes all posts, and they will share yours with your most engaged followers in the first 90 minutes. Make sure to get them to engage for a skyrocket in reach.


#15 Edit & Comment Carefully

Avoid commenting on your own post or editing typos in the first after publishing. It will lead to a penalty in reach.


#16 - Don’t be a Tag Mafia

Tagging multiple people (for the wrong reasons) that don’t engage? Penalty!?

Tagging yourself in the post? No Benefits!

Better to tag people in the comments.?
