What is It?

For example, in the Sunshine State there is a nonprofit corporation known as the “Florida Self-Insurers Guaranty Association, Incorporated,” casually referred to as “the association.” All individual self-insurers as defined in ss. 440.02(33)(a) and 440.38(1)(b), other than individual self-insurers which are public utilities or governmental entities, are members of the association as a condition of their authority to individually self-insure in this state.

How's it Work?

The association performs its functions under a plan of operation exercises its powers and duties through a board of directors. The association has those powers granted or permitted corporations not for profit.

Who Watches It?

The activities of the association are subject to review by the department. The department has oversight responsibility as set forth in this section. The association is specifically authorized to enter into agreements with this state to perform specified services.
