TfL’s new data shows continued rise in walking and cycling across London
Transport for London (TfL) has announced that it has published data from its annual Travel in London report, showing that there has been a continued increase in walking and cycling in London, with levels of cycling remaining 40 per cent higher than levels seen before the pandemic.
The report shows that levels of cycling continue to exceed pre-pandemic levels, with cycling in autumn 2022 40 per cent higher than in 2019. Cycling on weekdays in autumn has also typically been around 20-25 per cent higher than pre-pandemic levels, despite less commuting, and around 90 per cent higher at weekends. Read more.
New project to advance large-scale roll-out of user-centric autonomous vehicle services
The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) has announced that the European Union (EU) has launched a new project, ULTIMO, which seeks to set the foundations and deploy the very first economically viable, large-scale, on-demand and user-oriented autonomous vehicle (AV) public transportation services. Transport for Wales launches new Women in Transport Hub
Transport for Wales (TfW) has announced that it has partnered with Women in Transport to launch a new Welsh Hub that will empower women in the industry to maximise their potential. Read more.
Government of Canada invests in battery-electric bus pilot in Barrie
The Government of Canada has announced $3.3 million in joint funding for a battery-electric bus pilot programme in the City of Barrie, Ontario.
"To reach our emissions reduction target of net zero by 2050, we need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector. Our investment in Barrie’s battery-electric bus pilot programme marks the first step in the city’s transition to a fully electric public transit fleet." Read more.
First Bus announces proposals to withdraw all Southampton services
First Bus has announced that it is proposing to close its bus depot in Southampton and withdraw all of its City Red services in the region with effect from 19 February 2023.
According to First Bus, operations from First South’s depot in Southampton have not been sustainable for some considerable time, and this worsened due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Read more.
