News: Twoworlds transforms doodles into creative illustrations – thanks to AI

The Dutch Fotofabriek received an Innovation Prints Award at drupa for its AI-based product StoryPrint. However, artificial intelligence has long been used in other platforms as well – and it is not uncommon for providers that are also strong in digital commerce to be pioneers. One such example is the online marketplace “TwoWorlds”, which uses AI to transform children’s drawings into colorful works of art – or photographs depicted in the style of famous painters.

Photo books that can be generated at the touch of a button by using an algorithm to sort the desired images into a balanced sequence and a visually attractive design have been around for a long time. However, generative AI can now open up new levels of mass customization: In “My magic glasses”, a product from the British provider “TwoWorlds”, it is neither text input fields for names, nor photos or clicking together various visual features that serve as the basis for individualizing the hero or heroine of the story – but drawings of all kinds by children. The artificial intelligence creates a creative, colorful and “lively” version of the drawing based on these doodles and crayon drawings that are uploaded during the book creation process. In this manner, viewers of the book can literally look at the drawings “through the eyes” of the little artists. The layout in the form of a pair of glasses, which extends over both pages, also contrasts the original drawing and its AI-generated counterpart.
