Dubai approves architectural designs for two new sports stadiums.

The approval of the architectural designs for the new sports stadiums in Dubai, Shabab Al Ahli - Dubai Club and Al Wasl Club, by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Dubai Crown Prince, Executive Council chair, and Shabab Al Ahli - Dubai Club president, is a significant step towards elevating sports in the country. This approval aligns with the vision of Rashid Al Maktoum to enhance the sports industry and boost Dubai's status as a sporting hub. The stadiums, with a capacity of over 20,000 spectators each, will feature unique designs that incorporate eco-friendly systems, smart city elements, and sustainable practices. The formation of a dedicated team, comprising members from various Dubai authorities, demonstrates the commitment to delivering these projects on schedule and creating world-class sports facilities in Dubai.

Wolffkran JV to build crane manufacturing facility in Riyadh.

Crane manufacturer Wolffkran has formed a joint venture with Zamil Group to establish a WOLFF crane manufacturing facility in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The joint venture will also create a rental fleet consisting of 300 WOLFF cranes. The contract for this partnership was signed at the Private Sector Forum 2024. Zamil Group, with its expertise in construction, real estate, and steel construction, brings local knowledge to the joint venture. The CEO of WOLFFKRAN Duncan Salt , expressed pride in pioneering the dynamic construction market in Saudi Arabia through local tower crane production. Once operational, the facility will be the first of its kind in the Middle East. It is anticipated to manufacture around 150 luffing jib and trolley cranes annually, serving markets in the Middle East and North Africa region. According to Wolffkran CEO Duncan Salt “The partners are currently in the process of selecting a suitable location for the production facility. Additionally, Wolffkran and Zamil Group plan to invest approximately SR1bn ($270m) in the newly established joint venture. These initiatives align with Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the country's economy by 2030.” This joint venture announcement follows the deployment of eight WOLFF cranes by construction company Riedel Bau for a project in Jena, Thuringia, Germany, in December.

BRKZ secures new funding to expand footprint across Saudi Arabia.

Construction technology startup BRKZ has secured $8 million in a Series A funding round, bringing its total investment to $13.55 million. The funding will be used to expand its footprint in Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East and North Africa region. The funding round was co-led by 9900 and BECO Capital, with participation from Aramco's Wa'ed Ventures, Knollwood Investment Advisory, RZM Investment, and MISY Ventures. BRKZ aims to use technology to address challenges in the construction industry, such as fragmented supply chains, operational inefficiencies, and limited access to financial resources. The startup plans to become a comprehensive one-stop shop for the construction industry, providing access and opportunities for contractors through a tech-enabled ecosystem. BRKZ has already processed over $170 million in quotations, covering a wide range of products from multiple suppliers.
