In the News...Commentary by Hope Pordy on Overtime Pay in the Public Sector
Hope Pordy interviewed by NBC New York to discuss overtime pay litigation on behalf of workers in the public sector. Similar to the type of overtime violations prevalent in the private sector - when employers do not pay workers for all time worked prior to the start time of a shift, during meal periods or after the end time of a worker's shift - public sector employees, providing critical services to the public, do not receive all the pay they are entitled to for their work time. This pre-shift, meal period or post-shift work may include donning and doffing uniforms, gathering and securing equipment, receiving assignments and reporting out to the oncoming shift, or completing assignments or responding to emergencies during a meal period. Lost overtime pay is recoverable on behalf of public sector workers under the Fair Labor Standards Act ("FLSA"), which also applies to the private sector. #overtime #FLSA #workersrights #laborlaw #employmentlaw #litigation #wages

5 年Important issue. Thanks for posting. Also, congrats on TV gig. Now please move on to MSNBC. I am tired of that network giving appearances to former prosecutors instead of labor and employment lawyers.
