?? News Energy 4 a Better Planet (English) | February

Hey there!

Let’s get the new month off to a great start by sharing key news and events involving our Company and the energy sector in February. From the publication of our 2024 results to the completion of the installation of 49 wind turbine generators at our Forty Mile wind farm in Canada, and the inspiring story of one of our systems engineers in Australia, who left the Philippines to undertake an experience full of challenges and opportunities in Brisbane. Read on!

?? Total installed capacity increased to 15.35GW (+2GW)

In 2024, we have added 2GW of new capacity, mainly due to the development of our own portfolio in countries such as Australia, India, Canada, the United States, Spain and Croatia, as well as the one-off acquisition of 297MW of wind power from the Green Pastures complex, in Texas (USA). Total installed capacity amounts to 15.35GW. 62.75% of the company's renewable energy fleet is located outside Spain. More information here.

?? Big milestone in North America! We’ve completed turbine installation at Forty Mile

We’ve achieved major progress at our Forty Mile wind farm. Our teams have successfully completed the installation of all the wind turbines at the site in Bow Island, Alberta (Canada). We also connected 14 turbines to the grid, adding a total of 80 MW of operational clean energy to the region’s electricity supply.

This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the effort of more than 250 workers, who, in two shifts and extreme weather conditions, with temperatures down to -20°F/-29°C, worked against the clock to finish the installation safely. Read all about it.

#PEOPLE

???“My fear was that I might not get a job right away because I was a woman in the field of electrical engineering”

If you’ve ever thought of taking on a new adventure thousands of miles from your home city, this story will interest you. Let us introduce you to Buena Amor de Torres, one of our systems engineers in Australia, who traveled from the Philippines to Brisbane for an experience full of challenges and opportunities that has allowed her to grow both professionally and personally. Discover her story here.

#I’MNOVATION

?? How ships using green hydrogen are refilled at sea

Vessels running on green hydrogen are already a reality. And guess what? They can be refilled on the high seas thanks to floating filling stations. An example is Sealhyfe, a floating platform which produces green hydrogen 12 miles off the Atlantic coast. Since June 2023, it has generated 400 kg of green hydrogen a day using renewable energy. We report on Sealhyfe and similar projects in this article.

#SUSTAINABILITY

?? More sustainable seawater desalination thanks to renewables

Did you know that integrating solar energy into desalination plants can reduce the cost of desalination water by up to 24%? The growing water crisis is forcing humanity to look out to sea. Desalination is a viable solution, but it needs clean energy to improve its sustainability. We explain the issues around this new alternative here.
