News 3 report: Alpine owner sues City of Las Vegas
Suit claims negligence by city, alarm company, employee in deadly fire
A newly filed lawsuit states that other parties -- not the owner of the Alpine Motel Apartments -- are "more directly responsible" for the tragic fire that killed six people in downtown Las Vegas in December 2019.
The suit, filed by attorneys representing the Alpine's owner, claims negligence on the part of the City of Las Vegas, the company contracted to monitor the Alpine's alarm system, a live-in employee, and the resident of the unit where the fire started.

According to the lawsuit, alarm system company EDS Electronics failed to alert the Alpine owner of a system malfunction -- even though the firm did have his contact information for billing purposes.
The lawsuit also claims that the "City of Las Vegas never performed any investigation" after it was informed of a false alarm and an alarm system malfunctioning at the site.
The suit also states that an on-site employee was negligent in several ways, including failing to repair a rear door and instead being responsible for bolting the door shut.
Finally, the suit names the resident of the unit in which the fire started, claiming he "chose not to turn off his stove and/or oven" before leaving the property.
