Newly released tools - making the through-year transition

We are continuing our discussion on through-year assessments (ICYMI,?you can catch up here). The process of transforming a state assessment system requires a coherent and strategic approach to planning and implementation. This month, we share?two resources?to support state leaders in exploring, planning and making the transition to through-year assessment systems.

State leaders can use the new, in-depth Through-Year Assessment Toolkit both to understand the enabling conditions that must be in place to pursue a through-year assessment system and to explore, develop and implement through-year assessments. The toolkit is easy-to-use, short, practical and specific. For example, you can assess if your state is ready for through-year assessments, get help to engage district leaders and other stakeholders and plan for implementation.

One of the considerations states have to make when determining whether to transition to a through-year system involves how closely tied to curriculum the system will be. In partnership with Dr. David Steiner and Aneesha Badrinarayan, we explore how states can position state assessment systems in service to teaching and learning and the role of high quality-curriculum in state assessment design.
