For newcomers to drones, it's important to understand these basic index parameters

In the previous article, we introduced the difference between brushed motors and brushless motors. Multi-rotor motors mainly use brushless motors to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy.

Next, let's introduce the index parameters of the motor.

1)Size

The motor's size depends on the stator's size and is indicated by a four-digit number. For example, Motor MN4112, the first two numbers represent the stator diameter (mm), and the last two numbers represent the stator height (mm), so the 4112 motor means that the motor stator diameter is 41mm, and the stator height is 12mm.

2)?KV value

no-load speed (RPM) of the brushless motor when the input voltage increases by 1 volt (V) when the brushless motor is working. For brushless motors, this value is a constant. That is to say when the motor is produced, the KV value of the motor is determined and cannot be changed.

The speed of the motor (no load) = KV value * voltage; for example, the no-load speed of the KV100 motor is 1000RPM under the voltage of 10V

But we will find that the same motor often has different KV values. So in this case, choosing the appropriate KV value is very important. For the same model of brushless motor, the following principles are basically followed:

A motor with many winding turns has a low KV value, a small maximum output current, but a large torque;

A motor with fewer winding turns has a higher KV value, and a higher maximum output current, but a smaller torque.

3)?Idle current

In the no-load (no propeller installed) test, the motor current measured when a no-load voltage (typically 10V) is applied to the motor is called the Idle current.

?

4)?Peak Current/Max. Power

Maximum peak (instantaneous) current/power: the maximum instantaneous current/power that the motor can withstand;

Maximum continuous (continuous) current/power: The motor can allow continuous work (a specified time) without burning out the most high continuous current/power.

?

5)?Internal resistance

The motor armature itself has an internal resistance, although the internal resistance is very small, because the motor current is very large, sometimes it can even reach tens of amperes, so the small internal resistance cannot be ignored
