Newcomer to Canada Building Future at SaskEnergy
The past year has been one to remember for Tawfiq Quader. Most recently, that’s because of his new position as SaskEnergy’s Leader, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment.
Originally from Bangladesh, Quader immigrated to Canada on August 28, 2021, to provide a better life for his growing family.
"Speaking as an immigrant, I can't understate how important a job offer is to us," Quader says.
In his new position, the father of two works to identify and assess safety hazards at SaskEnergy and help navigate ways to address them.
Since coming to Canada, Quader has been busy. He completed a work term with the National Research Council, pursued a Master's degree in Industrial Systems Engineering at the University of Regina, and welcomed his second daughter into the world.
Quader’s commitment and drive helped him stand out when he applied to be a co-op student for SaskEnergy.
"Tawfiq's previous experience has allowed him to succeed in his co-op student role and add value to the projects he has worked on. I am certain his success will continue in his new role," says Glenda Samuelson, who hired Quader as a co-op student in May 2022.
While working as an engineer in Bangladesh, Quader’s job took him to several countries, including China, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Germany. Yet, after all those experiences, it’s SaskEnergy that stands out.
As both a co-op student and in his new position, Quader has noticed how supportive the managers and executives are and says he feels empowered to take initiative.
Looking forward, Quader is excited about his future with SaskEnergy. He says he eventually would like to work in a leadership role at the company.
