#NewbieTUG : What are Table Calculations?

What is a table calculation?

As per Tableau help page , A table calculation is a transformation you apply to the values in a visualisation. They are calculated based on what is currently in the visualisation and do not consider any measures or dimensions that are filtered out of the visualisation.

As simple and easy this explanation may sound (or not!) every #Tableau user has had a love-hate relationship with Table calculation, and a #TableNewbie is not alone I can guarantee that.

For our 5th #NewbieTUG event, we picked up this very topic and trust me it was a great learning experience, be it for a newbie or for a long time Tableau user.

? Jim Dehner and Klaus Schulte started with Introduction to the Table Calculation, and how these calculations help answer analytical questions using functions, and the settings which define the scope and direction of the table calculations. The below slide summarises this quite effectively.

After understanding how the Table Calculations work, Ann Jackson showed us some great use cases. By looking at her first slide itself, I knew we were headed into some mind-blowing visualisations and some great learning experience.?
