The new ZEN “untangled”
My journey with “zentangles” (re) started exactly 34 days back when I was dabbling in various art forms as always. As a run up, I was dabbling in pencils, color, crayons, pastels, water colors and charcoal sticks till I took a pilot pen and did what I used to do during conferences about decade back! Pen on paper and doodle as the pen moved. Only this time, I applied a structure of sorts and sketched a “theme” or concept, before doodling to fill up the spaces.
How has it helped me?
In a big way it calms me down and brings in an instant relaxed feeling. I also realized that my focus on non zentangling work has improved – as in I am able to complete the same task better and sooner. Another way to look at it, the itch to get back to the next zentangle is so strong and to fit it in a limited hours life, one has to improve elsewhere J
From zentangling a Dali’s Melting clock, Van Goghs’ Starry night or imagining my own “Social” and “Safety” bubbles or simply doing a portrait of Amrita Pritam, it has been such an enriching and NEW experience each time.
Why am I posting this?
I find many of us trying to make peace with this new world post covid/lockdown. There are many changes which have taken place around us and as I type this, happening too. As a reaction, we are all undergoing rapid change within, with or without our knowledge. I am too. And while I have been maintaining that the covid scenario has not bothered me much, it has. That’s reality. Many of us are, of course reaching out and helping the needy. What about ourselves. Charity does begin with self!
So, find/rekindle your passion, pick up a new skill. Time will pass. As you look back a year down the line, you will be happier having created a body of work, contributed to your own development too.
Cheers
