The NEW You!

Let me start with this truth . . . You have power to change your life.

In fact, you are way more powerful than you probably realise.

Just because a persons potential might be dormant, does not erase the fact that the potential still exists.

The beginning of a new year is one of the better times to re-calibrate yourself. Why? Simply because we are in a natural page turning moment. A year has passed, a new one awaits. Despite the fact that January is a typical time for evaluation and goal setting, you don't need a 'New Years Resolution' to make positive changes in your life.

December 31st and the 1st of January hold no more power than February 18th, or August the 7th. They are just dates in a calendar.

The truth is that every day is the start of a brand new 12 months ahead of you.

The power to change is not in the date, but rather in the decision.

Your super-power is in your start!

Small decision - Scrappy start. This should be the focus

You are closer than you may think to establishing the productive, disciplined, growing kind of life you have hoped for!

  1. Dream in detailed pictures about what kind of person you would be if you were at your disciplined best (or close to it). Write down descriptive words to give it shape. Bring the picture of that person to life by daring to dream about the possibility. Creativity, Learning new skills, Good health, Good habits, Consistent routine etc etc.
  2. Classify the items that could be actioned immediately versus those that will require a more gradual transition. Remember, 'the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time' So, start small.
  3. Pick just one action from the immediate list. Begin. Start. Nail that one action item as if it were the most important thing in your life. I guarantee that if you can nail just one item on your list, you will experience fresh momentum that will spill over into other areas. You will grow new muscles that become the building blocks of positive change.

This very simple, practical process can work for anyone. You can apply it to any objective that matters to you - Getting healthy, Fixing your broken sleep patterns, Learning a new skill, Overcoming procrastination, Getting control of your screen time. Anything!

Personally, I am using this very same process to pursue important goals in my own life. Late last year, I identified 6 items that I wanted to incorporate in my daily routine. These were all items selected for improving my health, sleep, productivity and daily energy levels.

I commenced on December 31st (deliberately avoiding the January 1st cliche) with a new wake up time. Waking up (with an alarm) at 5:30am every morning became my one actionable item to get the ball rolling. Of course it was hard to begin with. However, it's becoming normal very quickly. AND, the amazing thing is that based on that one change, I have uncovered new momentum for the other change items on my list. I already have 4 of the 6 items well under way, and I expect to have all 6 functioning by mid-Feb at the latest.

I am no different to you. If I can do it, so can you!
