New York’s COVID-19 Sick Leave Law Set to Expire: What Employers Need to Know

For nearly five years, laws enacted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic have shaped workplace policies. One of these, New York’s COVID-19 Sick Leave Law, is set to expire on July 31, 2025.

Until that date, employers must continue providing 5 to 14 days of paid leave for employees who are subject to isolation orders and unable to work remotely due to COVID-19 symptoms.

When the law sunsets, businesses will need to rely on alternative leave policies, such as:

  • New York Paid Family Leave Law
  • New York Paid Sick Leave Law

Both options may offer benefits to employees needing time off due to COVID-related issues, ensuring continued support for workers while maintaining compliance with state regulations.
